Not really. Think about this, today on Rachel Maddow's show I listened to Nancy Pelosi talk about the press conference were Luke Russert asked if she was going to step aside because of her age, she was right to call the question rude, if it wasn't asked of the men who are her age or older in the Senate and House, that is a problem, but, not the biggest one. The biggest one we have is the idea that we have to separate voters by gender, race, sex, and sexual orientation, and that Ms. Pelosi has decided that we need to separate the new members of the House and Senate the same way. Here's the thing Ms. Pelosi, we are all Americans, we all vote, and our votes count the same no matter who we are.
In this the most recent election I thought that maybe things would be different after President Obama won again, but I can see that what is needed is a swift kick in the head, so, I hope this is it. It does not matter if you are a woman. It does not matter if you are "a member of the LGBT" community, it does not matter if you are Hispanic, it does not matter if you are African-American, it does not matter if you are Chinese, Japanese, Native American, White, Irish, Scottish, German, heck it does matter if you are a Martian, if you where born in the U.S. or you are a legal citizen of the United States your vote counts the same as anyone elses, and you have a right to serve in the government when you are elected to that office, and none of the stuff above should matter a lick. Anyone who brings this stuff up is just patting themselves on the back, or race baiting. And don't get me started on religion, I don't care if you are a Christian, Muslim, Pagan, Buddhist, Maoist (well maybe), Hindu, whatever, if you are an American and you care about this country then none of this matters, what matters is caring what happens to this country and its people.
Ms. Pelosi in my opinion was wrong to pat herself on the back in the interview over the fact that there is a larger number of "other than white straight men" as Rachel Maddow put it in both the House and Senate than in past years. Here's a fact that a lot of people on both sides don't want to admit, the number of white men in this country is getting smaller, or the number of other than white men in this country is getting larger, one of the two, and that is something I'm actually glad to see, because, the majority of white men that I know are bigots or closet bigots, they are afraid of the other, the other of course is anyone who doesn't think and feel the same way as they do.
Why can't we all get along? Because, there are too many people out there who think that they are doing something great if some of the "others" get a small chance at being big every now and then. Or, they don't want the "others" to get any where because it would mean "losing their America" to the "others". This is the way it's always been in this country and this is the way it will always be in this country until we all wake up and realize that we are ALL AMERICANS, and we all have a vote and that vote counts the same as everyone elses vote.
