I was reminded of several old movies and movie shorts that have become icons in the film industry tonight by a few simple things in the news. The Republicans constant refusal to accept the fact that they lost the election and why they lost the election. I was also reminded of a series of books that were written two centuries ago about the idiocy of our government at the time, and what was going on at the time. Remember, the days when we would watch the Wizard of Oz on TV and laugh at the antics of the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion, and how we would hope that Dorothy would be able to escape the Wicked Witch of the West and win the day? This wasn't just a story to please children, as a matter of fact it was a story for adults when it was first written, it was a political set of story's about how the farmers, and the industry's were having a hard time dealing with Washington, and it was about the gold standard, and that there were people in the country that thought it would be better to use a silver standard instead of gold. The yellow brick road was the gold standard, Dorothy's "slippers" in the books were silver, she and the scarecrow represented the farmers, and the Tin Man represented the industrial workers, the Cowardly Lion was a Senator of the time that caved when given the chance to support the changes that were needed to make a difference, but, I'm getting away from what I wanted to really talk about here.
There were movie shorts, done by such great comic greats as the Three Stooges and the Marx Brothers that were made during the second World War, sitting here watching the news tonight I was reminded of these and I thought to myself, we came very close to living these films, if the Republicans would have won we would be in a place were our government would have resembled some of the films of the Marx Brothers and the films of the Three Stooges. The policies of the Republican party would have placed us in a very hard place for the next four years, both here and around the world. I remember one Three Stooges movie were Moe had become the dictator of a country and Larry and Curly were his generals, by the end of the movie the people were in full revolt and the three numbskulls were looking for a way out of the country without getting hung, because of the wars they had started the Stooges couldn't find a country that would take them, in the end they ended up in prison. The Marx Brothers had made a similar movie during their careers with pretty much the same ending. What made me think of these movies and story's? Of course the things that the right has been saying since the election of 2010, and especially in the last week.
Sarah Palin, running in 2016, this would be a sure win........for the Democratic candidate, who ever it was. Marco Rubio, would be like running Harpo Marx for President, he has made too many mistakes in the past year to run right now as President. John McCain, oh boy, he's seen better days, it's time for him to retire. Rick Perry, get serious here, really? Jeb Bush, ok, he did well for Florida according to my Father, but, do we really want a Bush dynasty in the White House? Cris Cristy, I don't know about him yet, yes, he has said things recently that sound good on the surface, but, he has also said some pretty outrageous things in the past. Then we have the right wing media, otherwise known as FOX News, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and as many others as you care to name, all of which still don't know why they lost the election, and they continue to repeat the reasons every day on their shows, sad, really, really sad.
It really has gotten to the point in Republican world were they remind me of the old Three Stooges shows, and the Marx Brothers as well as a few others, this doesn't make me happy, after all they are half of the people that are running this country, as a matter of fact it scares me to think that any one of them could at some point end up with their finger on the button that could put us in a nuclear war, and frankly, it should scare the rest of you as well. Think of Moe, Larry or Curly with their finger on that button, or think of the Scarecrow with his finger on the button, the Scarecrow before he got his brain. Think of the Tin Man before he got a heart in charge of Social Security, or any of the Social programs in our country and you have Paul Ryan, John Boehner, and Mitch McConnell, imagine if Mitt Romney had won the election, now put him in the role of the Scarecrow. In the story the Tin Man and the Scarecrow were good guys, but, with what I would be seeing with these guys, leaders without heart, or brains are dangerous leaders, leaders that would do more harm than good, and this is not what we need right now. We need leaders that will at least try to do what is right for this country, and the last four years have shown that the Republicans won't do what is right, unless it's right for them, and that means getting them re-elected, as far as they are concerned the only thing that will get them re-elected is giving tax breaks to the rich, and getting rid of every social program this country has.
Listen to the news, if you listen with an open mind you will see that what I have said here is right, and what the Republicans are saying is totally wrong.
